How I check what I tell you
Who writes this site, how each claim gets checked, and what happens when I get something wrong.
Who writes it
Every page and video is mine: Taylor Cushman, MD, a physician board-certified in Internal Medicine. My training and credentials are on the About page. No one pays me to cover a topic, and nothing is sold on this site.
How a claim gets in
- Every number and research claim goes into a fact ledger before it goes into a script or a page.
- Each ledger row is traced back to the original study or guideline, not a news story about it. Most rows then get an independent 3-way check: does the source really say this, is there good evidence against it, and could the wording be misread.
- Each row gets a verdict. Rows that pass as written are used as written. Rows that are true only with a limit (for example, "in older adults") are used only with that limit stated. Rows that fail are cut.
- When I give my own view as a doctor, I say so ("I'd…", "What I do…"), so you can tell it apart from the data.
On this site, the "Key numbers" and "Sources" boxes list only claims that passed as written. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed.
How AI tools are used
I use AI tools (Claude, from Anthropic) to help find studies, check sources against each other, and draft pages like this one. AI never has the last word. I review every page and every script before it goes live, and a claim that can't be traced to a source doesn't run.
Transcripts
Video transcripts come from the final approved script, not the raw recording. The video can differ by a word or two where I said it a little differently on camera.
Corrections
If I get something wrong, I fix the page, note what changed and when, and say so in the next newsletter if it mattered. To report an error, email [email protected].
Patient privacy
I don't share anything about my patients here. Any example is either made up to show a point, or shared with that person's written permission, and I'll say which.
What this site is not
It is education, not medical advice, and it can't replace a visit with your own clinician. See thedisclaimer.
